About Me
My name is Priscille Bukasa. I am a spoken word artist, poet and teaching artist living and working in Calgary.

My Story
My first experience writing and performing a spoken word piece was at the age of 14, in the eighth grade. My homework was to compose a haiku poem, but the constraints felt too stifling for my creativity. In defiance of the haiku's structure, I penned a free verse poem titled "Identity" and bravely presented it to my classmates. It wasn't until later that I realized this marked the inception of my journey in spoken word.
Writing poetry became my sanctuary. During my youth and into my early twenties, the act of writing was a form of therapy, a soothing tempest, a haven for healing, and a moment to contemplate the world that enveloped me. Even now, it retains those roles and has expanded further. Sharing my words through performing is an added bonus.

Get to Know Me
Over the span of more than 14 years, I've taken my words to numerous platforms across Calgary and Edmonton. From conferences to festivals, from high schools to elementary schools, and from marketing campaigns to churches. My passion for writing has continued to grow and evolve as I continue to look for new ways to express my craft through collaborations with other artists, and storytelling.
Lately, my passion has found a new home in teaching and facilitating poetry and spoken word workshops. Growing up, I lacked access to such opportunities. My own learning was largely self-guided, and by watching my favorite artists on YouTube. Today, I love the fulfillment that comes from imparting knowledge and sharing my journey. Guiding emerging poets toward discovering their own voices has become an incredible source of joy, allowing me to pay forward the support I wished I had during my own formative years.
